Following his swim in the pristine lake, the large bear-like dog had laid out in the sun for a while. When his back was almost dry, he rolled in the grass before trotting away to chase a squirrel up a tree. While he was walking around the trunk, snuffling the ground with his nose, his ears twitched from the sound of a larger animal moving about. The animagus raised his head to sniff the air. He turned around, lifting his moist black nose to inhale once again.
There was a wolf nearby. Even in dog form, Sirius' eyes looked sad when he remembered his dear friend, Remus. But this wasn't a werewolf. He could tell from the scent. Perhaps another animagus? He loped toward the smell with the intention of finding out who or what this might be. He approached at an angle from behind the wolf, emerging from the cover of tall, swaying grasses into a patch of sunlight.
The dog woofed softly, the sound being a question encompassing: "Who are you? where did you come from? will we tolerate one another?" as he stood, waiting for the answer.
