The sound of his name made Jacob stop. The shaking was gone and the transformation to werewolf stopped as he stared at the vampire that was now looking at him.
His mouth dropped slightly open as he realized who it was. She looked different, even paler than usual, her skin was sparkling in the evening sun and her eyes were bloodred. But it was her.
"Bella?", he asked, still staring at her unbelievingly. It was really her. She hadn't died. Well, not totally. She made it and became a vampire.
"How?", was all he managed to say for the moment, his thoughts racing through his head. He had been so sure, that she was gone. The bond that had been so strong between them, especially over the last days, had just disappeared. But maybe it wasn't because she died. Maybe it was because she changed. He couldn't feel that way about a vampire. It just wasn't possible. They were enemies by nature. But he still loved her and was glad that she made it. He didn't care that she was a smelly vampire now. She was still alive and that was all that mattered.
The look of disbelief changed into one of joy and a smile appeared on his face.
"You're alive. Or well, as alive as you can be", he said. Part of him wanted to run to her and hug her, but another part of him told him that that probably wouldn't be a good idea.
His eyes went back to her bloodred ones. "You're not going to try to eat me, are you?", he asked, feeling a little uncertain. Newborns were supposed to be bad at controlling themselves. But Bella hadn't attacked him yet, so that was a good sign, right?
