Saruman might have been meditating. He didn't appear to be especially interested in anyone who came in but he paid heed to them even if he did it without being obvious.
When who he assumed might be the last one to arrive, some pirate called Barbossa who fancied himself to be a lord from a world Saruman couldn't care about, the White Wizard looked up. His humourless eyes observed the sea captain sweep his hat off and bow, an act Saruman knew was intended most for the ladies in the room. A sardonic fire glowed in Saruman's stare as Barbossa sat beside one called Lamia.
He stood up, towering over all of them. "Each and everyone of us want to be where we belong." He spoke with the ease of a politician, keeping personal opinion and emotion out of his voice, gazing at one or another of them to retain eye contact and to use his intuition. Had this not been necessary, Saruman would have revealed how he loathed all of them as being inferior. "Each and everyone of us knows we don't gain our power by cooperating as equals because no one here is the equal of the other... except for the goal I believe all of us want. The way for us to go home as quickly as possible is to work together and defeat the other side. We need to use intelligence to accomplish our victory. Not merely our own intelligence, which no doubt is superior to anything on the other side, but to also find out how many are over there and any other information to help us be victorious.
"We need to capture some of them. They stray into the forest and the mountains as if they had nothing to beware of. They should be easy game to imprison and..." Here he found himself looking at first at Michael and Jane. "...once they have provided information, we certainly won't release them. The captives will belong to all of you to do with as you wish following interrogation.
"Does anyone have any constructive comment to make?" Saruman wouldn't normally bother with this sort of etiquette in his own realm. The unfortunate fact was that he couldn't do otherwise in this circumstance. He hid his angry frustration well, waiting and gazing at the one called Lelaund Gaunt before his gaze touched each and everyone in the room.
