Kadaj looked around suspiciously. "A good general would want to size up the troops," he said, obviously disdainful of someone who might or might not be spying on them. "So who brought us here?"
For a second or two Kadaj considered spearing the book with Souba. He imagined himself doing it but his death and aftermath in the Lifestream had mitigated his callow violence. Once he resheathed the sword, he grabbed the book in a way to make sure the stranger didn't touch him. Kadaj thumbed the pages with a gloved hand.
Meanwhile, Yazoo gave the man a cool stare. His pupils narrowed to small slits. He kept a hold of Velvet Nightmare without pointing it at the man again. "Oh no, I never accidentally hurt someone, I assure you," he said in a frosty tone.
"Hnn, we're in here," Kadaj said to him. He let the book slam shut and fixed his stare on the stranger. "What else do we need to know?"
