Matt listened to her story, and the way she spoke. He noticed the waver in her voice, the very subtle hitch in her tone as she talked about it. He felt for her, nobody like either of them deserved to have their family roots unearthed and split apart.
"I'm sorry to hear about your family. I know how you feel, and I know that you don't deserve what happened even if you think you do. Nobody does."
He set down the fork he'd been holding and took a sip from the now lukewarm tea to finish it.
"Tell me something good about yourself, lets even the scales out a little bit."
