Halloween Display 2009

Sorry to vanish last week with the Picture of the Day, I had a hectic work week. I hope to resume on Monday!

This was our window setup for Halloween this year. I admit, I'm pretty keen on the jar of eyeballs. I only did Tzeitel and Nikolin and Valentine, because there's not a lot of space to work with. ^_^

This is how it looked in display, through our front window. Our house sits right on the street, so people can see this as they go by. It's too bad I can only leave it set up for one evening though, because it's a ton of work. ^^; I don't want to leave the dollies in the window overnight or during the day.

Yeah, I was going to put Nicodemus' spare head in there, with white staring eyeballs, but I really didn't want to traumatize anyone. (namely, me.)

COOL. :D I love the horns! And the hand in the box. The eyeballs jar is a nice touch, too. :D

I wasn't going to put Nikolin in there at all, but he won me over with the horns, baby. Can't resist a leggy fellow with horns.

Now's when I need a Gabranth icon.

I'm so glad Halloween was a saturday! I had time to set all this up. ^^;

Next time it's a weekday may be the time I just unstring someone and leave them strewn around ghoulishly. :p

ahiphgiphip!! Why do you guys always have such awesome set-ups? So cool! Where do you always manage to find all these doll items? I really want to start putting some scenes together for my own crew but keep having issues finding stuff for it.

Thank you! LOL, part of it is just because I'm terrible for collecting frippery and trinkety things. And I guess when I go in a store I just have on my doll-goggles? so I'm always looking for stuff, and I'm lucky to have friends/family who are always looking for stuff, too! I was lucky to be into dolls when Kingstate was liquidating a lot of furniture at Ross Dress For Less, and I live right down the road from the big Boyd's Bears barn in Gettysburg. I also live right in a touristy downtown area with a lot of cute shops, and places like that have tiny doodads that can really plump up a set. But, in a lame attempt to show where I got all this crap stuff, I have diagrammed the prop photo above! ...badly. but hey, I'm avoiding my nano wordcount.

So, yeah. ^^; Mostly, I raid things like AC moore has a good dollhouse/miniature asile, for things like the green bottle and the glass bottle with the white powder inside. (that's actually one of Diderot's kitchen canisters, it's full of flour.) AC Moore also has lots of mini dressers and things, back with the unfinished wood products. Ornamentea has some tiny bottles here, too.

I use a lot of appropriated jewelry and scrapbook findings, party favors, stolen accessories from other action figures (there was a captain nemo series a while back, that's where I got things like the map. A friend gave me all those.) Dollar stores sometimes have mini pots and tea sets as toys. Lots of people know I like this stuff and my mother-in-law is always finding tiny things as presents. Sometimes they work, and sometimes the don't, but it's thanks to her that Diderot has an amazing selection of kitchen utensils. And I'm always looking for other things. The drawback of course is that I have a huge antique dresser and one whole drawer is dedicated to props. Not furniture, even, just props.

I also waste a lot of time on google.

So all that with a bit of luck means that if you were to need a doll sized functional inflatable beach ball, I've got one. The drawback is I don't have any space to set up permanent sets, and they take tons of work, and lots of poster-tack to keep me from knocking everything over.

But I'm really, really flattered you think it looks so good! ^________^ If you ever have a question about a specific thingumy I'll be glad to tell you from whence it came.

Oooh! Wow, was not expecting such a long and informative reply! Thank you. ^_^ And I'm in the Gettysburg area a lot actually as I have really good friends that live around there so maybe some time I should suggest a doll item hunt with them as they are doll people too.

I've been getting stuff from AC Moore but it seems lately they've cut down a lot on the doll items. T_T Though I did find stuff to make some furniture with since they no longer sell that much finished stuff. I've never been to the Boyds' Barn but maybe I should try to make a trip there sometime too since my Mom used to work for Boyds back in the day so she may be interested in going there. I had no idea they had furniture thingies.
