Precious & Fragile Things
Last Friday (the 13th) we purchased a Pride of Joker Ren from a user on DoA. The doll has had a really rough life, and had been mistreated a lot before getting to his last owner. As a result, we were able to purchase him for a really low price, and our seller was absolutely super to work with and so glad to find him a good home. Thank you so much! :D
PoJ Ren is one of our dream dolls, since he sold out shortly before we heard about angelregion. This one no longer had his orginal faceup, and we were braced for him to need a lot of work. Our seller cleaned him up and mended his clothes and overall did a wonderful job getting him to us safe, but the rest was up to us.
Here then, is his arrival, his before and after, and the introduction of our perfect Valentine.
Our Yu has utterly rejected her first name, she much prefers to be called Triska, as she is the thirteenth doll. Valentine is sort of for her, as she hasn't really got any doll-friends.
"Less talk. More opening."
always, always buy your secondhand dolls from people who work at a Sanrio store. I haven't had so many free goodies since the days of Korean saltwater taffy. He's in the bottom, securely wrapped up in a million layers of bubble wrap. :D
this is his 'before' picture, how he looked out of the box. Even with all the cleaning, care, and repair work our seller did to fix him up, he still shows a lot of earlier abuse, poor kid. Apparently he had a really rough trip getting to her when she bought him.
...It looked like someone tried to pry off his headcap with pliers. -_-; terrible sharp gouges all along the rim of his cap and the top of his head. If you're into carnage, here are some more before shots.

We both set to work! eider and I dismantled him and scrubbed him top to toe, and we were able to remove all his stains except for one inside his head, where it doesn't matter. I sanded the rim of his headcap and the top of his head and got most of the dents smoothed down so they aren't so sharp. He'll always have a few scars, but a life like that, he deserves 'em.
Twice during the afternoon Pandora pulled Precious, once while I was painting his tattoo and again when he was getting all dressed up in his fullset for the first time. things get damaged, things get broken. I suspect he likes Depeche Mode.
five hours later....
and our Master of Mischief and Magic has arrived.
....pick a card, any card.
and I'll tell your fortune.
(I'm so pleased with his tattoo. I've never done doll-ink before.)
For his faceup, I combined the elements we loved from the original PoJ faceup, as well as things we've liked in other dolls. We wanted him to look like a trickster and magician, a performer, but not clown-scary. He's really very gentle. He came with ears pierced, so we gave him tiny silver hoops out of I think the smallest jump-rings in the universe.

Home at last, with his little queen. ♥
