Emerson actually laughed at that. And she had a sense of humor too. Extra distracting indeed. He really did make the worst and best decisions spur of the moment sometimes. His eyes drifted down when Piper moved her hand just so, giving her one of many once-overs before snapping back up to look her in the eye.
"Maybe I'd be slightly curious to know how you got in past Handsy Guard Numbers One and Two," he admitted, extinguishing the flame effortlessly once Piper had lit her cigarette. He continued walking en route to his car. It wasn't a fancy thing in spite of the sum of his inheritance. Some kind of current Toyota. He really didn't even know the model, just that it worked and was fairly reliable. He wasn't exactly banking on style points. In a weird display of chivalry, he opened Pipers door for her.
