Alice just waited. The bid war wouldn't go on long, she assumed. The second voice hadn't sounded terribly confident. She simply stood and waited, dreaming of the trees and the rivers from her lullabies. Wherever she went, she'd stay there until she wasn't needed anymore. Maybe that would be forever, maybe it would be tomorrow. Everything was so uncertain, and sometimes she thought she liked it that way.
The voices continued back and forth a few times, but by the end of it, Alice had lost count.
