The witches could have just as easily kept him at home and there wouldn't have been an issue. "This is the first I've spoken on it, and if you command it, it will be the last." His daughter wasn't truly his daughter after all. Like the family he formerly served wasn't truly his family and were too quick to get rid of him when one member decided he might know something and others thought he got too much attention.
"Please take me home with you, Master," he said, allowing himself to be weak and slightly less than completely confident in front of Carrick. "I will serve you well." Any day might be his last with a vampire, but he was sure Carrick could at least make those last breaths pleasurable.
