Damon pursed his lips, trying to think of how best to word the bad news, before deciding to just come out with it.
"There isn't much to take," he said, a hint of regret clear in his voice. "A small emergency kit, and I think there's a blanket in there. We'll take that."
He ordered Elena to stay in the car again, got out, and made his way tot he trunk. That part of the car was at least still visible, and he used brute strength to pry it open. He grabbed the kit,and got back inside. The opening and closing of the door wasn't keeping Elena very warmer, but it was still warmer than out in the snow.
"Here," he said, passing her the thin blanket. "Try and keep this wrapped around your shoulders. We're both going to climb out my side, and then I'm going to carry you. You'd be warmer if you walked it yourself, but it would take way longer."
