"Is that so?" Grace smiled down at the dog, scratching her behind the ear. "You'll forgive me then, Elsa," she added with an amused laugh. She doubted she would need to worry too much about the guard dog, Anubis, as she'd little desire to be insubordinate. "Though I doubt my services would be required to tend to the dogs, I should be glad to help care for them should the need arise. I'm fond of them, but my previous master wasn't one to keep pets. Most of my experience with them comes only from lessons."
The library was a treasure trove to a woman like Grace, and she nodded to look back up at her master. She'd been fortunate enough to have been taught to read and write, and books had been a passion of hers, a personal one that wasn't indulged in for the sake of social use, though she supposed the topic of particular books or essays might pop up in the right company.
"I do enjoy reading, so I thank you for that," she said aloud as they walked, Grace always following the proper step behind her master. The house was quite the sight, and it would perhaps take her some time to grow fully acquainted with it. "I should indeed love to see the gardens as well, if it should please you to show me. I should be just as happy to see them on another day as well, my lord." Ideally, he would show them to her today as she wanted to take in as much of the manor as possible, but it was of course completely her master's decision.
