Well, of course she didn't want that, but she didn't want to just sit back and know that somebody else was getting hurt as a result. There wasn't any winning in their world, she was finding out. No matter who she was or what she could do, they were always one step ahead of her, sometimes thousands.
"When did this all become some complicated?" Buffy finally asked, frustrated beyond belief. "I-it's like there's no winning! Before it was all, 'Buffy, go over there and rough up that patrol before they find us'! And things were simple. I was good at roughing things up. I'm not good at this. I'm not good at living in this world because it's not easy like that here. I thought I was ready for all this, for all the hard stuff. I thought I'd already seen the hard stuff." She sighed, shaking her head as she stared down at her hands. "But I had it easy. How am I supposed to do the right thing here when I don't even know what it is anymore?"
