Emerson's smile remained, even if he wasn't sure that she could see it when she rested her head against the window. He wasn't sure what had happened, or even why Piper was so upset. Still, he knew that he wanted to make it go away or ease it as best he could. Fucking Gretchen. Maybe he was kind of a decent person sometimes in the long run.
"Now, no judging. I'm not religious, but Gretchen used to sing some church songs to me when I was sick or having trouble sleeping. So, they're always soothing to me even if I don't buy that shit," he advised her before clearing his throat, eyes focused on the road ahead.
"There are loved ones in the glory Whose dear forms you often miss. When you close your earthly story, Will you join them in their bliss?
Will the circle be unbroken By and by, by and by? Is a better home awaiting In the sky, in the sky?"
His voice was soft, not taking on the rough or loud tones he might've conjured for a performance. Instead it was low and deep, soothing and rich as he hoped to lull her to a more peaceful place with it.
