Alice let herself be led. Her pretty thoughts about being carried away by the wind danced in her mind, and she thought whimsically that this woman seemed very much like a strong wind. The way she spoke and moved and carried herself was strong, maybe even fearsome sometimes.
The girl wasn't scared, however. She was rarely scared of anything, but that didn't mean that she wasn't subject to a strong woman's will all the same. She nodded carefully, looking up at the man as Laura spoke. Was that how it was? Had she been placed on auction by accident when she rightly belonged to someone now who had been Scott's superior?
"Yes," she answered without much hesitation. Want was always as strong word with Alice, but the strong wind that had swept her up was steering her in a very particular direction. "I want to go home."
