As the two slaves made their way inside, three large German Shepherds came trotting from a large living room that opened onto the hallway. One of them gave a wary bark at the new arrivals until her master silenced her with a sharp but quiet command. "Elsa. Behave."
The dog trotted apologetically over to Carrick and sat at his feet while he ruffled the fur at her neck. "Don't be afraid of the dogs, they're well trained. Except Anubis. You should definitely be afraid of him. He's guard dog, trained to deal with runaways." He gave the two slaves a significant look, then indicated the door to the sitting room.
Carrick sank into an easy chair and crossed his legs, gazing thoughtfully at the two humans.
"I'll show you the house, and your quarters. After that, you'll probably need to freshen up. I doubt there was much in the way of indoor plumbing at the slave market." Something occurred to him. "Have you eaten recently? Particularly you, Adelice."
