Carrick privately thought that if Hermes was right about Samandriel still adjusting to life as a slave, then he was the perfect person to teach the boy some humility.
The vampire gave Hermes a tiny smile, his fingertips playing around the soft hair at his slave's temple. "Don't ever doubt how much you mean to me, little bird," he murmured.
He gently let Hermes go and got to his feet.
"I'll see you at sunset," he said. "At which point I expect to hear all about your adventurous afternoon in the houses of ill-repute."
He returned to the suite, eager to return to the pleasures that awaited him in the company of his broken angel.
