"You're going to resent me for building our pack up?" Laura finally turned to look at him, angry this time. She wouldn't even address his words - he knew full well she'd never see him go. "You know what I went through when I turned him, Derek, how upset and angry I was at myself that he didn't want us, how dare you use him against me now!" Her eyes flashed red, and she glared at him, shaking her head.
"I haven't done for him anything I wouldn't do for any of the rest of the pack, so don't try and say that I play favourites. I made sure he wanted to stay, it's as simple as that. He has a job, he's trying to pay his way, he knows he messed up before, and he apologised and fixed it. But this fight? This isn't about him. It's about her, and her being a risk to us, and you picking the wellbeing of a slave over me."
Because they'd both been all that was left. And now she came along and made them attack each other like this. For all Laura knew, that could be the plan all along. Divide and conquer. But she knew saying that out loud would lose her her brother, and she couldn't. If not for herself, then for the pack.
"If you wanted to breed with someone, there were other ways of going about it."
