"She asked me questions, and I answered them, isn't that good enough?" She snapped in return, her voice a sharp whisper. "And I'm sorry Derek, but I get pregnant and suddenly my job is to be a mother's help?! You don't think that would look suspicious to me?!"
Not wanting to upset Mark, she hesitantly moved to stand up, laying Mark down with a shake in her arms, terrified of putting him down too harshly, or letting go of his head too early. After she was sure he was okay, that she hadn't messed up, she stepped away, and looked at Derek again, some hurt in her eyes.
"Stop assuming the worst in me. You don't want me second guessing everything you say or do? Then stop doing the same to me. Not everything is black and white, yes or no, Derek. I'm allowed to be hesitant, or nervous, without it being an instant no. I'm allowed to ask questions without you thinking there's an ulterior motive to me asking them - sometimes I just want the information." She rubbed her face, shaking her head, stressed.
