At Alcuin's apology Derek shook his head, wordlessly dismissing it and the impulse to apologize for something that wasn't his fault.
When the silence fell, he finished his sandwich, and washed it down with the rest of his lemonade. At the blond's next question, his gaze shifted to Alcuin and then away, and he stood, moved to the counter for the pitcher of lemonade and refilled his glass before sitting back down.
"That's Scott's business," he replied, shortly. "But I will say this. Packs are built on trust, and Scott betrayed it. He will probably say he had his reasons for not trusting us, but...." The werewolf made a derisive sound. "My sister hoped that Deaton would help him adjust to his...new status as a werewolf." He shrugged. "He had slaves before, you know. One of them is still here. Alice. My sister decided to take her, and I guess Scott didn't want her back. The other slave, Ruby, we sent back to the auction house."
