Derek could hear the sob from the bathroom, even over the running water, and he winced. He'd pushed her too far, too soon. He shook his head, guilt twisting his gut, and walked back to the bedroom.
He approached her silently, and set the glass on the nightstand, then hesitated as he straightened. He didn't want to leave her alone. Everything he'd read told him that he shouldn't. He toed out of his shoes and put a knee on the bed, stretching out next to her, and then his arms wrapped around her waist, pulling her firmly against him as he nosed the back of her neck.
