Darcy had stepped very lightly since her rather harsh introduction to Sebastian's darker side. Contrary to her normal behavior, she'd kept her head down, spoken quietly, and spent as much time by herself as possible. She had only just begun getting comfortable enough to revert back to being herself around Sebastian when she heard his voice ringing out in that now-familiar tone, turning her blood to ice.
Shit. She should have stayed away from this section of the estate, but she had wanted to visit one of the libraries to acquire something to read. Lesson learned, she supposed. Stay away from open doors.
Darcy entered his study and approached warily, coming to a stop with as much distance between them as she could safely put without earning his ire. She hated feeling like she was on display and was relieved that the dress she wore was not low-cut or otherwise revealing.
