OOC Note: Rumor Mill
Word is going around the police department on several topics. If your character has been at the downtown offices of the CPD any time in the past day or two (or talks a lot with someone who is) you might have picked some of this up: - Emmeline Vance has been officially arrested for the murders of Sirius Black and Cecil Warrington. - She is in a holding cell downtown until her bond hearing, which is to be in the night court this evening. - Former CPD officer Dylan Selwyn, who was supposed to be in for another four years, is having a surprise parole hearing on Monday. - If you're interested in knowing more about any of these topics, consider questioning some of the higher-ups at the police department or the DA's office. If you've got a connection with Chief of Police Kenneth McKinnon, Chief of Detectives John Dawlish, or District Attorney Douglas Cornfoot, you might be able to discover more on these topics. Being friendly with Gus Rookwood (the main man on Sirius's case) or Gawain Robards (lead detective on Warrington's) or Severus Snape (Robards's new partner, also working on Warrington's case) might get you some more as well.
There's also a lot of conversation down on the streets regarding both murders. - nobody finds it all that surprising that Sirius Black was killed by a jealous girlfriend, or that he would've been messing around with an engaged girl. It is, however, disappointing - he'd really seemed like maybe he was getting his act together. - There are still many who think Lucius Malfoy might've killed Cecil Warrington; it makes more sense to the locals than the guy's fiancee killing him when she could just break the engagement. - On the other hand, there are also some who theorize that Sirius might have killed Warrington and then the girl killed him in retaliation. - But really...there are a lot of people who might've wanted to off Sirius Black. If you're interested in checking out that angle, start by going down to the Hogshead to ask some questions. Abe Dumbledore and Doc Dearborn both know pretty much everything about everybody.
And in the lofty upper echelons of society, people are talking as well. If you're moving in the high-class-professional circles, you might overhear a few things as well. - for instance, the old rumors that Emmeline Vance might not actually be her father's daughter are certainly going to resurface. (Blood will tell, you know.) - there may be some talk among the men that maybe Warrington wasn't the golden boy he appeared. - Interested in knowing more about Emmeline? Talk with close friend Meredith Watkins. Just ferchrissakes don't ask the girl why she's not married yet. Want to know more about ADA Warrington? Dr. Horace Slughorn was an old professor who kept in friendly contact with him, and of course he has a brother, and then there's his friend and boss District Attorney Douglas Cornfoot.
