While Cass herself was no stranger to the music industry, she wasn't super familiar with jazz as a whole. Sure she'd heard the regular ones doled out ad nauseum and could sing Gershwin's most popular song by heart, but when you'd heard Summertime a bazillion times in every form of media, it was hard not to. She'd tried playing things on her laptop for her roomie, the guy who had actually lived during the Swinging 20's and desolate 30s. His taste in music were quite particular and he swore up and down that it just didn't sound right if it wasn't on vinyl. And so she set out on her task of attempting to find a way to cheer him up during the holiday. He'd watched his family live and die in this home, but yet still remained for some reason. She wasn't planning on kicking him out, but didn't want him to be sad that there wasn't the warmth of a family that year. It would just be him and her. Stepping into the store, with the most ridiculous name, she felt a little overwhelmed and looked quite lost as one did when they first entered a new place. Her eyes tried to scan the different genres as she moved through the aisles before stopping in the right section. Placing one bud in her ear, she started flipping through the records and tried to look at the song artists and titles, looking for anything that might be familiar. If it came down to it, she'd just try and listen to the songs on youtube or something and pick something that sounded like she'd heard it before. |
