Summary: Seamus and Lavender go to lunch.
Seamus got off the ship early, happy to be on land again after two days of being surrounded by water. A couple days before he’d been able to get off in Puerto Montt, Chile, and had headed with a few other passengers to the Río Maullín to do a bit of fly fishing. It had been an enjoyable excursion, and he’d managed to make a few friends (who all told him he reminded them of some son or grandson or nephew that they had back at home).
The next day, Seamus found himself cruising through the scenic Chilean fjords, and it was such a pretty sight that he nearly even forgot that he was on a ship. The water had been so glassy and still that the reflection of the mountains and sky stood as still on water as they did on land.
He even found himself waking up extra early on the next day just so he could see the Amalia Glacier as they passed by it at seven in the morning. He’d gotten a few pictures of it, but if he was being honest with himself, much of southern Chile looked like areas of Alaska and Norway. The only main difference between the three was that Chile was home to Patagonia, which reminded him more of the Yorkshire moors than anywhere else.
Today, though, they were thankfully docked, and Seamus had fled from the gangway and into Punta Arenas as soon as he’d been able. He checked his watch as he headed to the small wizarding establishment on a side road off the main drag of the city, and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that he would definitely make his floo time into London.
Inside the pub, Seamus headed over to the barkeep and gave him his name, smiling his thanks when the man crossed him off a list and pointed to one of the three small fireplaces on the other side of the room.
He took the floo directly to the Daily Prophet headquarters and then sauntered into his editor’s office, giving the other man a cocky grin when he saw him. “Johno, miss seeing me pretty face?” he asked, chuckling as he pulled out the parchment with his first article on it.
John rolled his eyes at Seamus and shook his head before reaching over and grabbing up the parchment that had just been thrown on his desk. “I thought I told you not to dirty up my desk with your muck,” he teased as he scanned the article. Finally, he looked back up at Seamus and gave him a genuine smile. “How’s being on a ship treating you? Gotten sick yet?”
Seamus cocked an eyebrow at his boss. “Now, if I didn’t know any better, mate, I’d say you almost want me to tell you I’ve gotten seasick on a daily basis…which I haven’t, by the way. Sorry to burst your bubble.” He grinned again and then rapped his knuckles on the desk.
“Need me for anything else?” he asked.
John shrugged and then shook his head. “Nah. This is all I needed. It’ll be in Wednesday’s Prophet. As usual.”
“Lovely. See you in a week, then.” He rapped the desk one more time before standing and disapparating to his flat, feeling like he should freshen up slightly before seeing Lavender. It wouldn’t do for her to make fun of the ash in his hair.
After a quick shower, Seamus dressed in fresh clothes and then went down to Lavender’s flat, knocking quickly before letting himself in.
“Lav?” he called out, searching the living room and kitchen for her. “You here?” When he still didn’t find her, he cautiously opened the door to her bedroom, peeking in slowly. “Lav?”
