A laid-back, mature X-Men RPG.

By the time [info]xculpation begins in August 2009 Charles Xavier's School for the Gifted will have been open one year. Some adult residents may have been there longer, as starting in January 2004 Charles, with government permission, began to train the X-Men as an experiment in mutant involvement in law enforcement. It was believed that in the event of a mutant going criminal it would be useful to have other mutants ready and willing to get involved to apprehend them.

There have been fairly few instances of that, all comparatively minor - a couple of bank robberies, some car theft, street robberies. The X-Men have more usually been called in as re-enforcements during riots, protests, or major events (parades, inaugurations etc.)

In the US, since 2003, the Mutant Equality Act has ensured that mutant citizens are protected from discrimination the same as any other minority group. The government has also built facilities that house mutant prisoners, though wherever possible they are kept in the general population.

Xavier's School opened in time for Fall semester 2008 to meet the needs of mutant children who, as well as their academic requirements, had power control to learn. It exists as a high school, covering grades 9-12, and as of Fall 2009 has started to teach Freshman and Sophomore college classes. Younger children needing help with their powers attend regular school, where possible, and are homeschooled in the evenings or at weekends by members of Xavier's faculty to travel to them for the purpose.

The Brotherhood of Evil Mutants has not at gamestart been founded. Whether it will be will be decided entirely by the characters.

[info]xculptation is set up to be a relaxed, mature RPG that allows players to explore characters without needing to be concerned about canonic plots being foisted on them. Just because you choose to play Shadowcat doesn't mean you need to factor in relationships with Colossus or Pete Wisdom, you're not going to set up a happy story arc only to have it smashed down by the Legacy Virus or similar. Here you can explore a character and help them find their own path through interactions with others.

We're intended to be entirely character and player driven, with each player and character being as involved as they choose to be. You can also pitch your character at any point in their life; Magneto does not have to be a contemporary of Charles, Julian Keller could be older than Scott Summers. Canonic backstory does not have to be used verbatim though there should be a flavor of it in their in-game history.

It's down to each player how they want to set up the character, so long as they keep to three conditions:
1) Any regular canonic siblings remain (though parent/child relationships can be amended. Rachel Summers could be Jean Gray's cousin if Jean is taken as younger character, for example)
2) The spirit of the character should remain (Emma Frost wouldn't be a poverty stricken fluff ball)
3) The character's powers should be taken from their canonic powers, though you do not have to retain all canonic powers if you do not wish to.

There is no update rule, and while we have fairly standard rules our most important condition is that you consider your fellow players and when possible let them know if your reps will be slow or you'll have to go on hiatus so they can plan around your absence. We also ask is that you make an effort to check in regularly and reply to anything directed to your characters, and participate in threads/logs when you can.

Plot will be developed through character interaction, and mod generated plot will not be foisted upon you. In fact mod generated plot will only be instigated at players' request.

The intended start date is Tuesday 25th August, providing enough chars are ready by then.

Many popular chars available!

Here is what happens: maybe you're sitting down to dinner at a fancy restaurant. Maybe you're just waking up on a dreary Monday morning. Maybe you're rocking your child to sleep. Then, all of a sudden, there is a flash of light, a roaring noise, and then... Nothing. You wake up in a lavish, unfamiliar bedroom; there is a knock on the door and in comes a house elf, huge eyes and batlike ears and all, with a tray of your favorite breakfast foods. The sun is shining down on a beautiful morning in a place you've never seen before. What happened to you? Where did your life go? And how do you get it back?

The Manor is a panfandom RPG, dedicated to encouraging character development and relationships based around plot arcs designed by the moderators. Your character is taken out of their lives at any point, even after their deaths, and dropped into a place cobbled together from bits and pieces of buildings from across the various universes. You never know when you'll take a turn and enter the Parthenon, or the brig of a Starfleet vessel. You are housed with people of your own kind: if you are a heroic character, you are situated near the rooms of the other heroes. A villain? You're with your murderous pals in another wing of the Manor. But how can life in this frightening place compare to the one you had? How can you befriend these unkind strangers?

That's where They come in. The Ladies of the Manor, the Mistresses of the House, the Deadly Duo, the Raving Rulers. They are the White Witch Jadis, ruler of Narnia, and Lady Mary Van Tassel, summoner of the Headless Horseman. They stay in their tower, look down on the Manor, and make changes in your life. They might decide one day that you need some romance, and spike your drink and that of another person in the Manor so that you fall hopelessly in love for about a week. Maybe they want you to make a few enemies, so they make sure you get lost in the villains' wing. And maybe they decide that you've gotten too uppity, and need to spend a little time dead. But don't worry: no one's dead for long, here.

This is the Manor. Welcome home.

Fact: 1 in 1,000 people has a natural immunity to the Fury Virus. That means in the world 6,706,999 people are immune. 30,382 in the US. 4,301 in Colorado. 2,506 in Denver...

In July of 2012 a pathogen that came to be known as The Fury Virus was released by a cult of religious fanatics who believed they were destined to do so in order to bring about the apocalypse. Their goal was to purge the Earth of sinners, people unworthy to stand upon it. Only the righteous would remain, those that had earned their place in the new world.

Everything did not go according to plan. The virus was uncontrollable. No continent, no country, no city was spared. The infection spread everywhere, mercilessly and indiscriminately killing saints and sinners alike . In the end, only a small percentage of people were left alive, but they were not the righteous. They'd simply won the genetic lottery, blessed with immunity and cursed with the burden of watching the world fall apart around them.

Then there were the others, another small percentage of the population, who didn't die from the virus. They were changed though. Changed into beings made up purely of madness and rage. They killed without thought or hesitation. Those that survived the virus without succumbing to madness were now forced to fight for the lives they were trying to rebuild. The creatures, those that were changed, were called Eaters, due to their insatiable appetite for living flesh.

One group of survivors made the drive up Mount Evans, to the University of Denver's Meyer-Womble Observatory, away from the packs of Eaters that roamed the cities and the plain. There, they started a new life, building a new home known as Haven. For the last eight months, they've worked tirelessly, building walls to keep their new home safe. What they can't make or grow on their own, they raid from the mostly empty city of Denver. The Eaters still come, roving bands looking for flesh to sate their hunger. The residents of Haven must fight for their lives and work together to survive.

Mutants have been around for years,
and for a while, they were accepted members of society. Simple products of evolution, certain people were born with gifts that normal humans couldn't begin to fathom being able to accomplish. Most joked about the idea of superheroes and described these abilities as "powers" on the streets. Some, of course, didn't trust this advantage. Regardless, it wasn't abnormal to see somebody on the street corner cooling their glass of lemonade with their hands, or a shop owner doing the work of three men all with his mind. They were your brothers, your sisters, your neighbors, your teachers... They existed, and everyone knew it. America was prospering, life was content for most, and the economy continued to grow.

Then disaster struck.
America became too comfortable with their place as top dog. They became a bullying country, certain that nothing bad would befall them. On the evening of April 05, 2009, a cybernetic attack on the United States took place, wiping out every computer system in the country, and taking over those belonging to the military. Our own bombs attacked us, the economy crashed overnight, and within days America went from super power to third world country. The rich suddenly found themselves dirt poor when the computers recording their monetary earnings erased every cent; business after business went bankrupt. Soon crime was on the rise, and people had to jump through hoops to survive. In the wake of the destruction, a scape goat was needed.

They blamed mutants.
People that used to dine with their mutant neighbor soon started to attack them. Murders became the norm, and with as much chaos as there was, most went ignored. The bad economy made way for crooked cops, the rise of gangs and mafias, and, of course, every scumbag looking for a pay day to run rampant. The U.S. government, determined to build an army and get revenge, and the resources for the most powerful army was just staring them in the face. They began abducting mutants off of the streets to bring them back to a secret division known as Operation X to perform experiments on them. They were looking for ways to boost powers, but more importantly, they needed a way to control the mutants they captured. The danger was fierce, so those with powers took a variety of measures to escape persecution. Some denied what they truly were and attempted to live their lives in the new world as normal humans, hoping to never slip up in front of the wrong person. Others banded together and hid in a mostly ruined part of the country that used to be Manhattan that is rumored to be haunted, radioactive, and all other sorts of crazy superstitions (most created by the mutants living there to keep normal humans away). Still others thrived in the new dog-eat-dog world, using their powers to swindle people out of their money.

In 2020, it gets worse.
All things prior to 2009 have been eradicated from the computers, but the country slowly starts to rebuild. Eventually, people start to figure out how to survive almost normally. Computers are relied upon less, new jobs are created to take the place of robotics, and people have figured out ways to cut corners due to the shortages of items at different times--and gas at all times. Used to this way of life, people become ignorant to the allocation of funds to Operation X, which has used ten years to develop a method of brainwash that has so far proven foolproof. Each expendable test subject brings them a step closer to creating the power boosters, and an even darker world lay on the horizon for the ostracized mutants as their friends disappear--and sometimes reappear as their enemies. It forces most to head for the Broken City, as dubbed by those who founded it, a mostly underground city that looks worse than the world surrounding it but works enough to keep them alive.

The. Fruitful. Project. [20 Aug 2009|10:24pm]

Original Character. Arranged Marriage. 17 & up.

In the year 2010 the world was plagued by the full effect of Global Warming. No country was spared and no one could imagine the speed in which it came. Within months entire cities were underwater, drier than deserts, or completely leveled. Thousands died and there was no end in sight. Many lost hope until 2020 when the Eden Project was founded.

The Eden Project was a last ditch effort by the human race. Surviving scientists came up with a chemical, a gas called 'Eden' that would hopefully cool the atmosphere enough to put a stop to the catastrophes happening around the world. Slowly but surely the temperature began to drop and the storms slowed. In the time between the beginning of the storms to the launch of the Eden Project, the world population had dropped from nearly seven billion to a little below five.

It was another six years before the effect of the 'Eden' chemical was known.

It began in 2028. There were suddenly less children being born and by the end of 2029, pregnancies stopped all together. The men and women of the world were now completely sterile. It was soon discovered that the Eden chemical was the cause of the sterilization, that the one thing that had saved the world had also doomed it to an inevitable ending, the population destined to dwindle down to nothing...
In 2048 a solution was found

Game will begin August 24th.
