"On March 20th, 2007 everything changed.

For decades, a virus has been rumored to exist and little was known about it's origins, what it was capable of, or if there was a cure. Dubbed the "Shanti virus", it attacks the nervous system of it's host and, in most cases, it is fatal. In late March, 2007, a vial containing the virus was shattered, destroying any hope of ever coming up with a cure. After that, things began to happen rapidly. People all over the world were becoming infected and people were dying by the millions. By June, it was obvious that the impact of the virus would surpass that of the Bubonic Plague and even AIDS. Hundreds of millions of people were dropping like flies and there was nothing anyone could do to stop it. There were treatments that could combat it for a few days, sometimes weeks, but never anything more.

By June 2008, the world was devastated. In what felt like the blink of an eye, humanity had practically been eradicated. Ninety-three percent of the world's population fell victim to the Shanti virus; leaving a mere seven percent to pick up the pieces."
