Possibly because I've always seen Mazoku as sentient beings fully capable of emotion (life and emotion are quite chaotic elements in their own right, after all) but they don't always fall under categories that humans would define them as. For a Mazoku, love can be something different and expressed and felt and experienced differently than from how a human would define and describe it, but in their own right, on their own terms, it still is love. It's hard to explain, but I grew up on hardcore science fiction. As Lennier on Babylon:5 said to Marcus once, "We may look like you, but we are not like you. Never forget that."
