She still hadn’t answered his question, but L let that pass. He looked at Rachel, studying her face for a moment. He watched as she swallowed and closed her eyes after claiming that she found out that she had been wrong. He could tell that the thoughts she was having, perhaps even the memory, was not a comfortable one for her.
“You died, Rachel?” L’s tone was serious, but soft. He didn’t believe there was any other way for her to learn of an afterlife. He realized that there had been a hint to the fact that she was dead even before now. They had discussed the possibility of this place being purgatory the first time they had met. It wasn’t as likely that two living individuals without the memory of their death would be considering such a possibility so early after their arrival here. Especially since they had been told they were just here to save their worlds.
