She handed him another orange, "I hope you weren't hurt too badly," Rachel stated with sincerity.
She probably wouldn't be eating the steak now anytime soon, so she turned off the oven, but left the steak in there. She would take it out after her and L parted ways again. "Tampered food, I used to have to look out for that as well," Rachel confessed with a bit of a smile. She had learned from her year living as a vagrant that there were some people you never accepted food or drink from. Now that she was in Asgard, Rachel no longer felt the need to be as cautious.
Sitting down at the table, Rachel motioned for L to have a seat as well. Peeling the orange, Rachel froze a bit when L asked her why she had been crying earlier. She didn't know if she wanted to answer that question, but couldn't bring herself to be cold to L on this day. Still peeling the orange, Rachel stared at it, and then sighed.
"Today is the first time that I've ever been in love with someone," she didn't look at L, "Even as a teenager I wasn't interested in being romantically involved with anyone. My aunt used to think I was a lesbian, and insisted that she had a group of friends who could perform an exorcism on me." Rachel chuckled a bit at that part, and popped an orange slice into her mouth.
In between bites of orange, Rachel continued to talk. "My aunt's fears were completely baseless. I've never had romantic, or sexual feelings for anyone." Realizing now that she had kind of painted herself into a corner, she ate a couple more slices of orange.
"When we parted ways I realized that I had these feelings, and I couldn't, can't do anything about them. Tomorrow I'll go back to being my usual self; go back to being completely asexual," She finished up the orange, and started rearrange the orange peeling into a circular pattern.
"I don't know, it's completely stupid. I shouldn't have been crying like that," she finally said sadly.
