There was a part of Maria's mind that protested to this, warned her something wasn't quite right. But she ignored that little part of her. It was the same part that had warned her that James wasn't a nice man, among other things.
She often ignored that part of her, and she ignored it now. Maybe later she'd regret it, but Maria was a creature of instinct and quick thinking. If she regretted it later, so be it. For now, she was enjoying this.
