"I guess it's good to be prepared." Maria smiled as she took a long drag, enjoying the sensation. She smoked rarely, but took great relish in it when she did. Life's little pleasures like that needed to be occasional, as far as she was concerned.
"There should be heat," she went on, not bothering to drop her cigarette as she moved from outside to in. "I've never seen much point in wondering how Emptiness works. What does it matter? It's here, we get what we need from it, and I doubt there were ever actually any people who lived here. But it's not like this is the first creepy, empty town I've ever got stuck in, so I guess I'm biased." She'd never stopped to wonder the particulars of how Silent Hill worked, either. It was magic, in a sense. Power. Old, heavy power. She just assumed Emptiness was ruled by a similar power, though one that was a lot more neutral.
"Do you wonder who pays the bills for Niflhiem?" she went on with a small laugh. It was a pleasant little cafe - warm tones dominated the walls and furniture, and there was a certain cozy and comfortable atmosphere. Despite the complete silence and lack of life inside.
Despite Rufus' claims of being boring, Maria seemed quite content to continue the thread of conversation. "Or for Asgard? There aren't any. This place isn't ruled or run by humans. It wasn't even made for humans, not specifically. It couldn't have been. Whoever it is that Lucifer and Jophiel work for, I guess they just take care of everything. If their minions are powerful enough to maintain our mansions and everything else, the big guys must be pretty damn potent. Something like this is probably as big as you or me...well...making a house out of children's blocks."
