"Ain't none of us perfect," Bert said, grinning. He was glad he'd put her at ease. He'd hate to alienate the first person who seemed happy to extend friendship to him. He needed friends, he'd never been the sort who could be happy on his own for long periods of time.
Or even short periods of time.
"Well, 'cept for me of course, but I'm one of a kind. And you're welcome to bask in my perfect glory all you'd like."
He could only keep his natural inclination to be an insufferable prat contained for so long.
