"That sounds like Halloween, almost," Alessa stated, "Well except we didn't have bonfires and we didn't throw stuffy men on bonfires. We did dress up, and get candy though." Well, at least the normal children did. Alessa had never been allowed to go trick or treating; probably because her mom viewed it as a very holy day. Begging for candy was beneath the true believers of the faith.
"Oh, well, that's good then," At the other question she sighed, she knew that telling this new guy about her lost abilities could be grounds for harsh judgment, but couldn't really keep it inside. "I suppose because they would have made me too...dangerous," she looked down at her hands, "I used to have this ability where I could kill someone just by wishing for it, or thinking about it,"
She remembered the first time when one of her peers had gone too far in his teasing, and Alessa, scared, angry, isolated, and confused, had cried out for him to die. When he did die, most people saw it as a coincidence, but her mom knew the truth. THAT had been the start of Alessa's true hell on earth.
"I could also go into people's minds and pull out things that were so deeply repressed even they had forgotten about them; and change the environment...things like that." She paused, "I never liked having the whole 'kill with your mind,' ability. Too unstable, and when people realize you can do that...they treat you a lot different."
