Kain had stayed quiet as the four men spoke amongst themselves, silently taking their words in and mulling them over. They made valid points. All of them. But Kain was still uneasy. The dragoon had never been the most trusting person, and the thought of his teammates actually becoming friends with the people that they were going to trap on this planet for the rest of their lives should they win left him uneasy. They were naive if they thought that anyone chosen explicitly to fight for the side of an evil entity wouldn't take advantage of getting close to someone on the opposite team.
Associating with them was dangerous enough. But friendship?
"While I agree with many of your points, I would not go so far as to offer friendship to those that we will essentially be imprisoning when we win. There are always exceptions to the rule, but there is such a thing as trying to be too fair or too noble. Nobility means nothing if it costs us more injuries, leaks of information, and possible death for our members."
Kain scanned the room, watching his teammates carefully as he continued to speak. "That being said, I agree that it is not rational to cut off all contact. Remaining...civil with their less hostile members could prove useful in the long run."
