Due to Sal's heightened senses, "feeling" Maria out would be much easier for him than it would be for her. While the trial had been transformed into a much more even playing field, he was still in his element. He didn't compliment himself on his luck too much, though. Pride, while fair in doses, could easily cause him to lose if he underestimated her or overestimated himself.
He crept along the side of the arena. Pausing, he glanced around the side of a haystack. When he saw nothing, he crossed the empty space. It was then he heard another pair of very soft footsteps, ears catching the direction and pace. There was no doubt she was swift and stealthy. For a brief instance, he was curious about her past and how she came to this world, but it was something that could not be taken into account right then. Lifting himself above one of the stacks, he finally caught movement and positioned his weapon on the surface of the barrier.
There she was, searching him out. He watched as she made her way across the room agilely. He followed her, not bothering with the scope, and counted backwards.
