It turned out that putting out fire took a lot more energy than actually starting it, and soon Mitch's body was completely soaked in sweat. While he didn't think of fire as a living, thinking entity on its own, he could almost feel how much the fire "wanted" to burn. Luckily, the firestarter had already cleared a nice area of walking space around him, which allowed more of the animals to escape.
