Re: Epilogue - 3 Days Later
Pressing her cheek against Kain's chest, Blythe allowed herself to cool down, her shaking depleting itself. She was nowhere near over what had been said to her, especially after what she had lived through. Her guilt was there and it had been increased tenfold by both Misa and Ryuzaki's words, but she knew that the only healer of such wounds would be time.
Kain's words also soothed her, not because they were sweet or promising, but because he knew what he was talking about. There was experience there. And while she would normally not be grateful or relieved by such empathy (really, who wanted to be able to relate to something like this?), this time it helped. She only hoped that this "illness" of hers would not be as much of a burden to him as she feared it could be.
When he said he loved her, her hands tightened at his back. She noticed the confidence in his voice and it caused a slight heat to rise in her face from her contentment. Kain was the sort of man where his actions spoke louder than his words, and as such, even when he said he loved in, generally hushed or shy tones, she already knew it.
Lifting her head, she gazed up at his face, almost pretending she could see his eyes, even if all she saw was a red oval. "Thank you, Kain." She murmured. "I love you." Then she paused and smiled lightly, albeit shakily, as she was still somewhat riled up. "But I no longer wish to court you."
Swallowing, she continued: "Kain, there is no need to pursue me further. Not when you already have me. To court someone is to set the foundation for a possible future with the one you have chosen. Perhaps I am fast in my feelings, but...I cannot imagine myself with anyone else. I simply wish to be with you. Not to be courted by you. I think that is one rule too many." She finished that on a lighthearted chuckle.
It was no secret that Blythe was very uptight about a lot of things, even their relationship. But being with him taught her that she didn't have to be. Just like the night she gave herself to him for the first time, she was slowly coming to understand that her feelings for Kain were just that - feelings. Not law, not instructions. Only love.
