Re: Epilogue - 3 Days Later
As Kain spoke, Blythe used the time to try to slow her erratic breathing, frustrated that she had come so close to crying. Surely, she was nowhere near done with her anxiety attack, but if she could keep from crying, that would certainly be one thing less to be self-conscious about. He made several good points and she heard him. But it didn't help much.
Blythe opened her eyes when Kain sat beside her. It was awkward to her - upsettingly so. He could have kept at a distance or held her - either would have been better than this nagging feeling that he was hovering. Her hand stayed on her corset, almost yanking at it as her chest heaved from the overexaggerated breathing. She opened her eyes and watched him for a long moment, wondering, fearing. Normally, Blythe was a rational woman, but she was currently in an irrational state due to irrational assaults against her. She was truly becoming convinced that Kain was still a shade wary and nervous of her behavior.
Feeling dizzy all over again, Blythe stumbled to her feet, using the pillar as a crutch. She made her way over to her desk and used the chair to keep herself steady. Whatever memories she had of that one night flickered across her vision in words and lights. And when she did hear her own voice - crazed, insulting, shrill - she grabbed her books on her table and threw them, attacking her desk in fury. As she did so, the tears she'd been trying desperately to withhold burst forth, and she eventually fell into her chair, covered her face in her hands, and sobbed.
