Her ears were covered by her hands, which nearly blocked out all sound. But the moment Kain stepped forward and knelt down before her, she knew putting her hands on her ears wouldn't work anymore. Sniffing and breathing erratically, she scooted further back against the hedge, trying to disappear into it. Her ankle stung as she shifted and she was so cold, she was noticeably shaking.
Kain's voice was calm and his words were sensible. But Blythe almost didn't hear it because she was focusing on the sound his and the girls' bodies made. She was this close to crying again when Alessa joined Kain. Because of her blindness, her hearing was better than most. But with the sounds in her ears, the whispering was left unheard. Nervous, she considered trying to climb to her feet and dart away while her two greatest threats were talking.
Then...Morana approached. Blythe watched the yellow aura kneel and approach, and her bottom lip began to quiver. "Please, no..."
Morana's plea was soft and genuine and good. And it pushed Alessa and Kain away. She could kill this girl. She had the potential. And if she let her control go, she would. But...Morana was here - talking to her - after she held a knife to her throat. That made Blythe swallow hard and wipe away a tear. She wanted to hold Morana's hand (she could almost imagine digging her nails into the girl's skin, but that was only a fleeting fantasy). Instead, she shook her head, sniffing again. "Please don't tie me down again. Please... I c-can do better, I promise..."
