Everyone had asked or commanded Blythe to stop all around the same time. Morana's soft plea came first, followed shortly by Kain and Alessa yelling at her from down the hall. At this point, they had just been sounds - blurred noise that meant nothing to her. She had flesh under her fingers and a young woman's life under her knife, Morana's heart beating much faster than before. She was content to drown out all else.
But like a spell being broken or a bond being severed, Alessa's quick movements - using her powers to separate Blythe from both Morana and the knife - shattered her hungry concentration. The knife and Morana's arm were yanked from her grip as she was pushed away, not hard enough to fall, but hard enough to stumble back.
When she regained control, she grew angry again. "No!" She shrieked. "You will not take it from me!" And she moved to grab Morana once more.
