Before Kain knew it, both women had dashed out of the room, and he had regained enough of his senses to curse loudly and join in on the chase, following the sound of Alessa's feet hitting the mansion floor. It was Kain's luck that nobody else lived on the first floor, or else they might have been curious as to what all the noise was about and made things even worse.
Not that they could get much worse, now that Kain caught sight of Blythe and saw that she had Morana in her clutches, and...was that a knife?
His stomach lurched unpleasantly as he realized that she had a knife to the young woman's throat. Morana had never been anything but pleasant to everyone in Asgard. If Blythe actually killed her...
Kain ended that train of thought abruptly, knowing that he was too far away to grab hold of her, but maybe Alessa could stop her. So he was going to gamble on the chance the yelling at her would startle her enough to make her pause. It was either that, or she would bolt out the front door, which she was about to do anyway.
"Blythe! Let go of her!" he snarled, skidding to a halt as he waited to see what her reaction would be.
