Kain had been relaxed, but alert, for the past few hours. Though even he, the trained dragoon, couldn't help but allow his attention to slip a bit as the minutes ticked by. As such, he was definitely not prepared when Blythe suddenly broke free of her bonds and threw a chair at him. Though, considering how odd the rest of the night had been, it really shouldn't have surprised him.
He was on his feet and had already taken a step forward when she threw the chair, which, unfortunately for him, hit him upside the head. He let out a short yelp of pain as stars danced in his vision, raising a hand to the spot where the chair had connected and knowing that he was going to have a good sized and painful bump by the morning.
He tried to shake off the disorientation quickly, but the pause in which Kain was left reeling in pain and surprise would have given Blythe enough time to escape.
