Hearts Are Cleansed Of Termite Things
Who: Kain and Blythe
Where: Greenhouse, Kain's Quarters
When: Backdated to December 9th
Rating: R
Warnings: Sex (nothing particularly graphic)
Summary: Kain wants to take their relationship to the next level, but Blythe is initially afraid of such a commitment. This time, she's going to push her critical tendencies out of the picture as they express their feelings for one another.
*The muns exchanged posts via email, due to the private nature of this plot. Is long!
November had been a long, eventful month for Blythe. She'd healed Vader (which resulted in waves of nausea for the next three days), spied in Niflheim with Alessa, and aided Asgard in formulating new plans of attack. In all of these events, Kain was somehow involved. It wasn't something she had planned, that he would be an intricate part of most everything she did. But she certainly had no room to complain. He was helpful and encouraging, even if and when he had to berate her for doing something stupid. He wasn't a changed man like Ryuzaki had been when she had bonded into a relationship with him. Besides the amounts of time they spent together, their more flirtatious bantering, and the occasional make-out, things were more or less the same. And she liked it that way.
And while the snow had fallen and much of the garden had died for the winter, the greenhouse was still ever available. Now that most of her work was done, she paid a visit to it, studying the plants, cutting and drying leaves, and replanting a few pots. Despite the temperatures outside, the greenhouse was always warmed at a constant 78 degrees, as there were a fair few tropical and fruit plants inside. And with all her work, she quickly shed her long fleece coat, rolled up her sleeves, threw her hair into a bun, and tossed on an apron. She didn't think anyone would pay a visit to the greenhouse but her, so she paid no attention to see if anyone was coming.
~
It was no more a part of Kain's plan than Blythe's that the two had become so involved with each other. Which is probably why they called being in a relationship with someone being involved with them in the first place. At any rate, Kain had been rather surprised at how things didn't really seem to change too much between them. He didn't quite know what he had been expecting, come to think of it. Did things normally change, or stay the same in a relationship? He had no idea. But he was happy, and Blythe seemed happy. That was all that mattered.
So when Kain found himself staring blankly down at a dry book about modern Earth weaponry, it took him a moment to realize that there were, in fact, other things he could do to occupy his time--hell, even things that didn't involve beating the shit out of inanimate objects! He had never really visited Blythe out at the greenhouse before, and after a moment of thought he stood up, placing the book back up on its shelf.
The path down to the greenhouse was easy enough to find, and for once, he wasn't decked out in full armor while stepping outdoors. His closet had provided him with winter clothing, though he was still not quite prepared for just how cold it was outside. As such, he hurried on his way, and stepped into the greenhouse quickly, a few stray flakes of snow drifting inside before he shut the door behind him.
After swiping a few snowflakes out of his hair, he glanced up and caught sight of Blythe, her hair up and an apron on. For some reason his mouth didn't seem to want to work properly, and it took him a moment to speak up. "I hope I'm not interrupting you, Blythe." He said finally, his tone bordering dangerously on cheerful as he removed his coat, wondering how it could possibly be so much warmer here.
~
Patting down one of the last pots with a freshly planted bulb, Blythe's attention was immediately diverted when she felt the chill of the outdoors enter the greenhouse. Admittedly, she wondered if the greenhouse's heater was malfunctioning before she glanced in the direction of the door. To her surprise, Kain's burning red aura was standing there, flocked by the warm greens of the plants. Even more of a pleasant shock was the tone of his voice. It made her smile.
“No, you aren't at all." She stood, wiping her brow; aware that even though she couldn't see it, there was probably more than a smudge or two of dirt on her face. She then proceeded to remove her apron. "You came to the greenhouse." Blythe commented appreciatively. "Through the snow, even. Are you donning your armor this time, or did you actually check the closet?"
The last part was said with a bit of a smirk. While she was not fluent in playful jesting, she was learning quickly. Hanging around Kain rubbed off on her that way. But, truly, she was thankful to see him. He didn't sound distressed, so that was indication enough that his visit didn't come on the front of bad news. It appeared he had come to see her just to see her. And that was wonderfully sweet of him. He still kept her guessing, and that was what made their relationship all the more exciting.
~
That smile was infectious, and before he knew it Kain found himself sporting a small smile of his own. Had Blythe actually said aloud that it was sweet of him to visit, he might have been a bit embarrassed. He was still getting used to not being overly blunt in his conversations with her, let alone doing things that could be classified as sweet. "You're never going to let me live that down, are you?" He asked in a tone of mock suffering, feeling oddly proud that she had apparently taken a liking to playful taunting as he approached her. "And to think, I braved the icy tundra in a blizzard just to see you."
Kain paused, noticing that Blythe had managed to get a few dirt smudges on her face while working. With a low chuckle, he reached out and began gently wiping some of the dirt off with his hand. "Though I have to say, it was well worth it."
~
The smirk never slipped from Blythe’s face as Kain approached, glowing at his playful tones. This was a side of him nobody but her ever saw, which made it all the more meaningful. When he drew close enough, detailing his “perilous journey” to meet her in the greenhouse, she chuckled and placed her hands against his stomach, curling her fingers into his shirt and noting, vaguely, that he really did wear a coat.
“You are my hero.” She joked back in mock-seriousness as Kain’s fingers brushed lightly against her cheeks, knowing full well he was cleaning her face. He was good at being gentle without smothering her. And hearing she was “well worth it” did have its butterfly effects on her stomach, no matter how little she allowed it to reflect in her expression. “And you must know, for a man who rarely imparts such sentiments, you are incredibly talented at saying the right thing.”
With that, she ignored his hands, which were still on her face, and stood on her toes. She pressed a lingering kiss against Kain’s lips before pulling back. If she had pupils, she would look sly and perhaps even sultry (not that she was fluent in seductive expressions anyhow), but as she didn’t, she settled on the fact that the kiss was enough of an indication of her affections. Blythe smiled at her lover and turned and walked back to her desk.
~
Most people would be surprised, to see Kain and Blythe like this, playfully joking with each other. They certainly weren't the most cheerful people in Asgard, and their fights were probably almost as legendary as Kain's fights with Ryuzaki. Even so, they understood each other, and it wasn't every day that someone understood the rather harsh dragoon. He had been about to respond to Blythe's compliment when she cut him off with her kiss. Her lips felt warm against his slightly chilled skin, and he dropped his hand from her face to her shoulder before she pulled away, casting him a look and walking over to her desk. Kain hesitated for a moment, then followed her, stopping just behind her and placing an arm around her waist.
"And for someone who is inexperienced in such matters," Kain began, leaning forward and speaking into her ear, his voice low. "You seem to know just how to attract my attention."
With that he pulled her around to face him, pressing closer to her as he kissed her deeply, his hands moving up her back and stopping at her shoulder blades. He had never enjoyed someone's company so much, nor had he ever trusted anyone this much--it was almost absurd, given how long he had known her. He still couldn't say whether he truly loved her or not. He had already proven that his views on love were slightly skewed, anyway. But he cared for her, more than he ever thought he would, and that was all he cared about at the moment.
~
When Kain’s arm snaked around her waist and his lips came within inches of her ear, Blythe felt a shudder run up her spine. This was the man with whom she had fought harder than anyone else in Asgard and Niflheim combined, the man who broke barriers both physical and emotional in trying to reach her. The stalwart, insufferable dragoon had put up as much of a fight as she had – she, this seemingly cold and bitter healer – but when all of their problems and bickering were set aside, they behaved almost like two normal people in a relationship. It was alarming how well they seemed to fit together.
One of Blythe’s hands reached out behind her, pushing against the desk as Kain drew her against him. The other arm wrapped around him, holding him close. She responded in kind, tilting her head up and returning the deep kiss with the same amount of enthusiasm as Kain. She was proud to admit that she actually wasn’t half-bad at this whole making out business. But she did relinquish a little bit of the passion as she nibbled lightly on his lip.
“Perhaps it is simply because I am irresistible.” She smiled coyly, finally wrapping her other arm around him. It pained her, because for a moment, she wished she could see more than the red glowing aura before her. Blythe, in moments of bliss and satisfaction, would always be a fair bit less blissful or satisfied because of the obstacle of never truly being able to see who she was kissing or talking to. Still, in the end, Kain never had any problems with her unique blindness, so it never stung for long.
~
In Kain's opinion, Blythe most certainly was not at all bad at "this whole making out business". When she pulled out of the kiss and nibbled on his lip, Kain's hands traveled down to her waist as she spoke. He smiled at that, resisting the urge to chuckle. "Well," he began, rather breathlessly, as he slowly began to kiss his way down Blythe's neck and to her shoulder. "I can hardly argue with that."
It was the truth. Being this close to her was almost intoxicating. Her touch was electric, sending shivers down his spine. Blythe. Mere months ago, he never would have guessed that they would d ever become this close. Blythe, the healer. Blythe, the worrier. Blythe, the woman who couldn't seem to leave him alone and mind her own business. Blythe, stubborn, irritating, and uptight. Blythe...the woman he had shared more with than anyone on this world or his own. Blythe, the woman he wanted more now than he had ever wanted anyone.
His hands slid down further, finding her rump and squeezing lightly. He half expected a slap, for that one.
~
The moment Kain’s lips began trailing down her neck, Blythe felt heat travel through her body and her knees grow weak. Quickly, her hands dragged themselves up his muscled back, fastening to his neck and shoulders, clutching for dear life lest her legs give way beneath her. She arced her head back to give him more freedom, releasing a pleasurable moan as she simultaneously started to ponder what his actions were implying. He’d never strayed far from her lips before. She wasn’t sure if he was hinting at something.
And then he grabbed her bum. While that, too, caused her breath to quicken and her hands to grip harder, she knew what he was implying at this point. Opening her eyes (when had she closed them?), she tried to speak, but what came out instead was a breathy: “Kain…”
…All right, that sounded like she was going to beg him to rip off her clothes rather than stop. She cleared her throat, this time putting some force behind it: “Kain, wait.” Her hands slid down to his chest where she applied a bit of pressure.
It wasn’t that she didn’t want this. She did. She wasn’t ashamed of sex or having it. But she was scared emotionally. Other people – family members, strangers, Ryuzaki – they’d been harsh with love, whatever little or odd amounts they’d provided. The moment she had left Ryuzaki, he became a whole different person, much as her brother had when their parents died. Sex was a big commitment, one that, for Blythe, required absolute love and trust. And while Kain had never hurt her or mistreated her (he was the only one who could touch her, really, after what happened with the abduction), she needed more. She needed to know it was okay to go all the way with him without getting crushed.
“I…” She was even afraid now of him being disappointed in her, that she stopped him when he clearly was ready to further express his feelings for her. “I need time.”
~
Just as things really seemed to be going well (Blythe certainly didn't sound discontent), she told him to wait. The moment her hands pressed against his chest and pushed him back gently, he straightened up, slightly confused. Perhaps he should have half expected it; after all, he had never been so bold before. When she explained herself, sounding almost fearful, he made a strange sort of noise, halfway between a chuckle and a sigh. He reached up, caressing her face with his hand, a small half-smile on his face. "Alright. We can wait." Kain said softly. He would be lying to himself if he tried to say that he wasn't at least a little disappointed, but he understood.
He let go of her and paused for a moment, unsure of what to do. It would probably be fairly awkward for him to stick around here, after that. Clearing his throat, he tucked some stray strands of hair behind his ear. "I should go back to the library. I was doing some research before I...came to see you." There was another short pause, before he added "Would you like me to pick up any books for you, while I'm there?"
He was trying to keep things as casual as possible, and wasn't sure how successful his efforts were.
~
Blythe could feel the disappointment reverberating lightly in Kain’s voice, and she was almost compelled to apologize when he brought his hand to her face and stroked gently. Maybe he wasn’t upset like she’d expected. But things were definitely a bit uncomfortable now that they pulled apart. Taking deep breaths and trying to cool down from what just transpired, she leaned back against the desk as Kain tried to find a suitable conversation closer. She shook her head. “I have all the books I need.” She smiled, hoping he saw the sincerity in it. “Thank you, though, Kain.”
Anything following that was not worth commenting on. Kain left the greenhouse and Blythe returned to work, but not with nearly the same amount of vigor as before. Finally, she stopped gardening, slamming her shovel into the soil, thinking too much of her feelings for Kain to really be paying attention.
Did she mean it, now that she considered it? Did she need time? She wanted to know there was trust and love between them, but was she waiting to hear him say he loved and trusted her, or was that implied at this point? She didn’t know. How could she? Courting someone was a meticulous, careful event. It needed full consideration, full preparation, and required great amounts of caution. UnGods…it was as though she were reading a manual about it. Was she really that rigid about it? It seemed to be that way. Besides, all Kain had ever done in their relationship indicated that he had deep, genuine feelings for her. If that was the case, was sex really that much of a big deal? Was she overcomplicating things?
Hm.
Getting up and leaving the shovel in the pot, Blythe made her way back to her desk, fingers traveling down to open the second left drawer. Inside were labeled batches of herbs that she had tied in little bags. They were remedies to be soaked in tea. Searching for a specific bag, she pulled it from the batches, squeezing it tightly in her hand. If she was going to do this, then she would be doing it right.
~
THAT NIGHT
~
She’d brewed the tea and drank it that afternoon, fingers trembling as she downed the hot drink. Then she spent the rest of her day studying in her room, taking notes on new remedies and winter herbs. But when night fell, she closed her books and slipped into her nightgown, removing all other clothing. Alice was no longer there for her to say goodnight to, so she felt no need to sneak out of the room.
Counting steps down the hall, Blythe found Kain’s door soon enough. She took a deep breath, her fingers shaking again, and knocked on the door. Hopefully, he wouldn’t be in too much of a deep sleep.
~
Once he left Blythe, Kain really did return to the library, and tried in vain to return to his studying. After a couple of hours of getting nowhere he sighed, gathering up the books he had been thumbing through and taking them with him back to his room. It was no use. His mind kept traveling back to Blythe, and their encounter in the greenhouse. Had he done something wrong? Was he not properly showing her that he cared? It was no secret that he could be rather cold and harsh, and it wasn't as though he was doing some of the things Ryuzaki had done when he had been courting Blythe. He would present her with flowers and poems regularly, and Kain did neither. Hell, he couldn't even begin to figure out how to write a proper poem. (The phrase "Roses are red, Violets are blue..." kept springing to mind.)
No, Kain wasn't the type to constantly have gifts at the ready to remind Blythe of how much he cared for her. Instead he would go on walks with her, talk with her at length about many topics (most of the time that would dissolve into light bickering, which he didn't seem to remember happening between her and Ryuzaki) spend time in her company...and just generally behave as he did before. Perhaps that was the problem. Maybe she was expecting something more from him. Had he been leaving her hanging? The hours drifted past almost without him noticing, until he noticed that the sun had been down for quite some time now. With a small sigh he stood up from his desk, peeling out of his sweater and shirt, leaving on his jeans. Jeans were not something that he had had on his world, but ever since his wardrobe had first provided them for him he had taken a liking to them. He snuffed out the candle, leaving only moonlight filtering in through his windows. Though he was never one to be very forthcoming with his feelings, he would have to have a serious discussion with Blythe first thing in the morning.
Just as he began to cross the room to climb into bed, he heard a soft knock at the door. He paused, blinking in the darkness. He had never received a visitor at this hour. He strode to the door and opened it, careful to do so as quietly as possible. When he did, he was surprised to find Blythe in the doorway, wearing her nightgown.
"Blythe?" He began, wondering why in the world she was visiting him at this hour. "What is it? Is something wrong?"
~
Having expected either no answer at all or a very groggy, “Yes?”, Blythe blinked rapidly when Kain himself opened the door and greeted her, not sounding the least bit bleary or lethargic. Being blind did have its downsides, as now she couldn’t tell if he was even dressed for bed or not. Was he working? Had she disturbed him?
She didn’t know for certain, but she knew guessing aimlessly would wind her up back in her own room, cursing her inability to be bold. Blythe settled on the fact that if Kain was busy or unable to host company, he would tell her.
“No,” she murmured gently. “Nothing is wrong. I only needed to speak with you about something.” By that point, Blythe had folded her arms and began rubbing furiously, as it was very cool out in the halls and she wasn’t dressed for an evening stroll in December. Her pale, white eyes fixated on his red aura, wondering what he was thinking. “Would you mind if I came in?”
~
Feeling the cold draft coming in from the hall, Kain quickly stepped out of the doorway, silently cursing himself for not doing so sooner. "No, not at all." He murmured, moving to light his candle once more before realizing that Blythe wouldn't mind the darkness, and instead sat down on his bed. He couldn't help but be slightly nervous--after all, Blythe had never come to see him around this time of night. Normally anything she wanted to talk about could wait until the morning. He really wasn't sure what it could mean...or if it even meant anything. He was likely overreacting.
With a small sigh he ran his hand through his hair, his face reflecting none of his unease. Even around Blythe, who obviously couldn't see his facial expression, he would hide most of what he was feeling through sheer force of habit.
"What was it that you wanted to talk to me about?" Kain asked, his voice slow and almost cautious.
~
Blythe said nothing as Kain moved aside to allow her entry into his room. He was on edge – it was in his voice. He sounded uneasier than she did, and she hadn’t even done anything yet. Granted, she didn’t expect him to be a mind reader, but to automatically assume she was here to bear him bad news was a bit much.
Any internal chastising she did of him completely vanished the moment Kain sat on his bed. With the way his legs were bent, feet on the floor, he was resting comfortably upon it. This was good. This was helpful. Slowly and almost delicately, Blythe walked over to his bed and sat beside him, the neckline of her gown large enough that it bared her wounded shoulder. She made no move to adjust it.
Swallowing, she spoke in a low voice: “I wanted to speak with you about our…encounter…in the greenhouse today. I feel I did not properly or fully explain myself and I believe I owe you an explanation.” And a reward for your patience. Slightly flushing, she continued, “I never, ah, had a happy childhood. You know this; you saw my memories. There was very little love. There was no trust. And it has been difficult for me to establish either with anyone. I suppose I expected trust and love to be less of my emotions and more of logic. It would be logical for us to tell one another how we feel, rather than express it. I have decided I am ready to express my feelings. I want to show you how I feel for you.”
That said, Blythe hiked her nightgown up above her knees and turned her body, sliding onto Kain’s lap and straddling him. Knees pressing into the mattress, she noted as she perched herself on him that he wasn’t wearing a shirt. This was now the moment of truth. Before he had adequate time to react, Blythe slowly slid her arms out of the nightgown and let it pool at her hips, baring her breasts and entire upper body to him and to the light of the moon. Immediately, her mind panicked – she’d never undressed before anyone before and this was improper. Her own skin was tingling in sensations of fear and exhilaration. It seemed only her mouth would work for her. And so it did just as she asked of it.
“Kain…” She whispered coolly, resting her hands on his shoulders. “Do you want me?”
~
Kain relaxed slightly when Blythe took a seat next to him, and as she began to speak Kain's insecurities fell away. If anything, he felt slightly guilty for assuming the worst of the encounter. In fact, he had been about to speak when Blythe shifted around and was suddenly straddling him. The words he had been about to summon up attempting to comfort her stuck in his throat, and he froze. Before he really had time to have any other sort of reaction, Blythe slipped out of her nightgown. Her hands on his shoulders were as cool as her voice, and he felt a slight chill run across his skin.
Blythe didn't seem real, bathed in the moonlight as she was, hauntingly beautiful. He almost wondered if she would disappear if he blinked, if this was all a dream. But he knew it wasn't, and for a long moment all he could do was stare dumbly, having never expected anything like this to happen. Of course, when could he ever predict anything about Blythe? She was wonderfully unpredictable.
Kain wanted to say something meaningful, try to express everything he was feeling at this moment. His mouth worked open and closed a few times before he finally let out a breathy "Yes."
It certainly wasn't the most eloquent declaration the dragoon had ever made, but it was hard to even think, let alone form solid sentences. Discussions of love and trust could wait, he decided, leaning forward and kissing her, one hand traveling up and tangling itself in her hair and the other drawing her closer.
~
Whatever chills that danced across Blythe’s bare skin immediately died the moment Kain responded in a voice barely more than a whisper. Instead, the heat she felt earlier that day returned, sparking internal fires. She felt her lungs release a breath she didn’t realize she had been holding in.
Kain pulled her in, their upper bodies skimming one another, and his hands were insistent and his mouth desperate. Blythe responded by digging her knees further into the mattress and shifting on his lap. She wrapped her arms around him, enjoying the freedom to touch his own bare body – a body she had secretly always been attracted to. She’d never had anybody touch her this much, this intimately, and while there was a part of her that was terrified of the contact, she flushed those feelings out. This was the man she had slapped the first time she’d met him. The man who didn’t change when the world did. The man who wanted her just as much as she wanted him.
Blythe smirked between the deep, relentless kisses and dragged her tongue along his. She was a lucky girl.
~
As Blythe shifted forward, Kain began to lean back into the bed, his hands traveling over her bare torso. His breath quickened as he and Blythe kissed deeply and her hands traced over his back. He had wanted her for quite some time, though he had never quite thought he would ever have her. And now that he did, things were better than he had ever imagined they would be. Even if they weren't like Henry and Eileen, or Cecil and Rosa, Kain wouldn't have it any other way. As her tongue ran along his eagerly, Kain chuckled slightly, his right hand grazing over one of Blythe's breasts.
Kain shifted a bit, realizing with a start that he still had his pants on. He had almost forgotten, in the heat of the moment. Reluctantly, Kain broke away from the kiss, placing a hand on Blythe's shoulder. "Blythe," he panted, a smirk to mirror hers pulling at his lips. "I need to get these jeans off." It would be fairly difficult to reach them at the moment, what with Blythe in his lap and all.
~
Grateful that he scooted further back (straddling him on the edge of the bed was rather precarious actually), Blythe gasped in pleasure as Kain’s wandering hands managed their way over her chest, paying her breasts a few moments of attention before he leaned away from her. It wasn’t until she heard him say her name in short breaths that she realized she, too, was breathing faster than normal.
Pausing in her own ministrations, Blythe got the hint and nodded only briefly before she slid herself off of him, avoiding kneeing his crotch. As Kain maneuvered himself to remove his jeans, Blythe didn’t give him space to recuperate. Rather, she pressed against him and kissed along his jaw line, her teeth and tongue finally playing with his earlobe for a couple heated seconds. When he had to shimmy his jeans off, she, too, paused and slid her gown off herself the rest of the way, tossing it aside. Now she was as naked as he was. Unafraid, she held out an arm, waiting for him to come to her again.
~
As Blythe continued her assault with kisses along his jaw and nibbling on his earlobe, Kain took in a breath sharply, shivers running across his skin. He had never gotten a pair of pants off so quickly in his life. When he turned and found Blythe waiting for him, now completely nude, Kain didn't hesitate to return to her embrace, this time positioning himself on top of her. Gently, he spread her legs, and ran his hand along her thigh before he paused a moment, taking in the sight of Blythe sprawled across his sheets in the moonlight. He then lowered himself down upon her and thrust inside of her, parting her and breaking her virgin barrier in one swift, heavy movement.
Kain let out a small gasp. Blythe felt wonderful, but she wasn't his first virgin, and he knew by now that things could be quite uncomfortable for them at first. She would need time to adjust, and so he started out slowly, taking long strokes. Slowly, gradually, he began to quicken his pace, taking great pains not to make too much noise, should anyone in the neighboring rooms still be awake. (That wouldn't be something the dragoon would be keen to explain in the morning.)
His breath was coming in ragged gasps, and as he planted kisses along her jaw, neck, shoulder, any inch of skin he could reach, he couldn't help but notice that Blythe sounded much the same way. That brought a grin to his lips, as he finally settled on nipping lightly at her neck, his right hand trailing up Blythe's abdomen to her breasts, the other planted firmly in the mattress to steady himself. Kain almost wanted to comment on how beautiful Blythe was, but he didn't trust himself to speak.
~
It was unspoken, but Blythe knew Kain had bedded a woman – or women – before. She had acted on pure, raw instincts from the beginning of this encounter. Kain had, too, but there was experience behind it. And while she’d normally be seething in jealousy, Kain’s experience paid off profusely for both of them.
When Kain returned and draped his body across hers, she could feel every inch of his bare skin kissing hers, and the heat in her body reached new heights. She was no longer nervous like she had been in the beginning, and instead gave in to his silent command as he parted her legs. Every little touch, from his hand on her thigh to his hips against hers, caused her to shudder – and she knew in that pause what he was preparing to do. Blythe wrapped her arms around Kain’s back the moment he thrust inside of her, her mind and body crying out in protest to this foreign object penetrating her. It hurt, but not badly, as she felt her barrier break. The pain didn’t last long at all. And when it did, Blythe felt nothing but pure, carnal pleasure.
This was incredible – previously unimaginable. Exotic sounds – whimpers, moans, and gasps – and his name tore out of her lips. She couldn’t believe that this was Kain causing sensation after sensation as his mouth danced across her skin and his hand caressed her breasts. That she had let herself go and did not regret this decision. All she could See was red as Kain completely enveloped her, and for once, she realized that sight didn’t matter at all. This moment was absolutely stunning because it was him, and he that was all that mattered to her.
Through every panting, gasping moment, she did slowly and steadily feel something coil and tighten deep inside her. Blythe dug her nails into his back as it reached a deafening height, and before she knew it, she climaxed. She threw her head back and swallowed the moment, crying out into the night. When she finally came down, she found Kain in much the same condition and fastened her fingers to his hair, kissing him hard.
~
Any thought of trying to keep quiet due to his neighbors was quickly discarded after Blythe began calling out his name. All that mattered was this moment with Blythe, and all the sensations that came with it. He followed her into oblivion, shuddering as jolts of pleasure ran through him, and suddenly Blythe's hands were tangled in his hair and she was kissing him. He returned the kiss with just as much passion, only pulling away when he actually needed to take a breath, rolling off of her and wrapping an arm around her shoulder. He was still catching his breath, glancing over at Blythe. Slowly, a realization dawned on him.
He loved her. He truly, honestly loved her. This was a shock to him, because while he had never thought that this relationship was anything but serious, he didn't think he could ever trust anyone enough to actually love them.
The thought made him...he couldn't quite describe the feeling. It was halfway between dread and elation, coiling heavily in his chest. He tightened his grip around her shoulder slightly, letting out a small sigh. Suddenly he was feeling nervous all over again, though for a very different reason. There was a moment's pause, before Kain spoke, his voice very quiet. "Blythe," he began, his mouth dry as he licked at his lips nervously and took a deep breath. "I...I love you."
He couldn't help the fact that his voice almost cracked as he tried to say it.
~
Blythe was sore, but she was filled with exhilaration and joy. Trying to calm herself down, she took several slow, deep breaths, saying nothing as Kain recuperated. She frowned when he eventually tried to speak in an almost hesitant voice, so she turned her head and watched the curve of his red aura, noting slight movement as he breathed. She did tense up slightly, because he could either be preparing to say something completely amatory or something completely devastating. Either way, Kain was never one to mince words.
Still…as prepared as she thought she would be, the three words that finally departed from his lips had her sit up abruptly, grabbing the blanket and holding it to her collar. She permitted every ounce of astonishment to reveal itself in her features as her chest tightened. For a long moment, Blythe let it soak in, emitting a small breath of disbelief. She had said earlier that by his actions, she could tell that he loved her and that was all she needed. But he said it. He said it first.
Slowly, a smile bent her features, her white eyes somehow warm despite their blank gaze. She leaned down and kissed him once more, softly, before whispering, “I love you, too. I love you so much.”
While saying those words, Blythe realized that this had been not only her favorite part of their evening, but of their entire relationship. This moment would remain with her for the rest of her life, whether or not Kain would be there through all of it.

Kain was almost startled as Blythe sat up suddenly, the blanket clenched to her chest. She looked totally astonished, and Kain simply watched her quietly, waiting for some clue as to what she felt about his statement. When a smile slowly spread across her astonished features, Kain couldn't help but smile back. That smile grew as Blythe kissed him and echoed his sentiments, a fair bit more eloquently than he had. He sat up, pulling Blythe into a hug. This was, quite possibly, the best night of his life.
It was amazing, how much things could change over the span of a few hours. While Kain had spent most of his day mulling over his relationship and trying to figure out whether he was somehow at fault for Blythe not fully trusting him, now he and Blythe spoke at length about many things. Their trust for each other, love, and (Kain was slightly baffled by the next point), several ground rules that Blythe laid down, which he agreed to, even if some of them gave him pause. That was the point of a relationship, wasn't it? Kain had no idea, but he was going to roll with it.
In between their talks, the two made love a couple of more times (Kain was slightly shocked when Blythe tackled him after he said something about doing his level best to ensure that she was happy) before falling asleep together, Kain with one arm wrapped around his lover.
When he woke up in the morning, Blythe was still asleep, breathing lightly, facing away from him. He simply set his chin on her shoulder, pulling himself a bit closer to her as he watched the sun's rays creep in through the window. He didn't think he would ever experience anything like this, and the thought made him chuckle lightly.
He was, for the first time in a very long time, perfectly content. At least for the moment.
