While he said he was in no way defensive, Blythe couldn't quite bring herself to believe it. This man had been revered and despised in his home world, but he had always been different from others. Separate. Untrusting. At the very least, his response had indicated discomfort. Vader seemed unused to her straightforward comments, whether or not they were intended as compliments.
