As I Walked Through the Valley, in the Shadow of Death... ((FINISHED THREAD))
Who: L and Light Where: Niflheim; possibly Light's room. When: The day after Fancy Dress Day Rating: PG-13, gonna try to keep it there. xD Warnings: Tension and Machiavellian angst. It is the facade of the century, and L will say things he doesn't mean in frighteningly convincing ways that may cause you to never believe a word he says ever again. Summary: L, after contacting Light and claiming that he's realized the other man has been right all along, agrees to go to Niflheim to try and convince Light in person. Light, naturally, is skeptical of the sudden change of heart, and has a "test" of some sort planned to gauge L's loyalty. This is all part of L's master plan to kill Light (which is getting to the wire, now, and will happen after the new characters are introduced), so please remember what L is trying to. ENDS. JUSTIFY. MEANS.
L breathed deeply, trying to calm himself. His body knew something his mind had rationalized and tucked away for later evaluation. Every step closer to Niflheim was a Trial in itself, but he forced his feet to keep walking towards a place he'd only been once before and sorely regretted that he had.
Everything depended on this. If L succeeded, he'd have Light's trust and the opportunity, soon, to kill him once and for all. If he failed, he would probably die. The bullet wound in L's shoulder from their last encounter was healing properly, but it twinged sharply as if to remind him what he'd be exposing himself to.
Mentally preparing himself, L understood that his only chance was to be vulnerable. Unarmed, and submissive, and utterly harmless. Part of what excited Light about him, L thought, was the fact that he was so violently opposed to relations with the younger man. To accept it, and even ask for it, with the insecurity and uncertainty of a child, would be his best bet. All it took, to get into that mindset, was to think about Blythe. Blythe breaking up with him, Blythe's harsh words, Blythe's anger after he and Kain had fought. So much resentment and sadness... he welcomed it, and needed it, because it was going to save him. A few real tears certainly couldn't hurt his cause.
