L quickened his pace. "Forty-one," he mumbled, and the holographic display hovering above his arm vanished. It was a brilliant design, really... he'd have to properly thank Zefiris someday, for creating his dream device. Knowing exactly where Blythe was, he broke into a sprint. It wouldn't take Alice and Kain long to overtake him, exhausted as he was, but adrenaline and worry pushed him forward. Unlike Kain, it had never occurred to him that she might be dead. To even think that... his heart would give out. It already threatened to break his ribs, it was pounding so hard.
Tripping in his hurry to climb the saloon steps, he shoved the door aside, reaching for his back pocket and drawing his pistol. After a moment, though, it was obvious that no one was there. "Nineteen!" L whispered frantically, the holographic display on his tracker flickering to life and showing him that he was, indeed, in the right place. Hand trembling, he reached for the red point on the map, touching the holographic blip. A shrill beeping at the bar sounded, and he stepped towards it. Reaching into a tankard, he drew out Blythe's flickering, pulsing pendant.
