"Ahh", Shinji murmured. "S'pose that's for the best, huh". He fell silent as Midvalley spoke again, cocking his head to one side as he considered the other's comment.
"You know, the more that I think about it, I'm not sure it's going to involve that much killing. I mean, seriously. What kind of point would that have? If we're looking at it from a deity perspective, and speaking hypothetically, say Asgard win, but lose 75 or 80% of their side, as far as they're concerned, as far as, I'm guessing Metatron would be concerned, would that loss of life have been worth it? Are they advocates of the ends justify the means. But, even if you don't take that viewpoint, we already know the first trial is what, 'trial of the mind', obviously that's only the first trial, so there will be physical trials at a later date, but..." Shinji paused for a moment, getting his thoughts in order before continuing.
"Say, again, hypothetically, a physical trial involving death is the second trial. What use will that be? Worst scenario, everyone involved is injured, and presuming the maximum number of people involved is everyone, then that includes doctors. Say the doctors are grievously injured, they're not going to be able to help anyone else.
"If that happens, there's no conclusion to the trials, no one wins. So, you know, I really wouldn't be surprised if everyone's got the wrong idea about what this war is actually going to involve. I mean, I could be wrong on that, but looking at the first trial and considering what the outcome of this 'war' is meant to be, it just doesn't make sense for mass death to be involved", he finished, rolling over onto his stomach and looking across at Midvalley and awaiting a response. He was generally curious as to what the other would think of his musings. He hadn't told the whole truth - as in, he hadn't been thinking about it a lot, it was something that had more or less just occurred to him, but even so, it made sense to his mind. And, he liked to think that he was generally even a little right with most of his guesses like that.
