As Blythe stumbled, Kain, who had been thinking of other things, stumbled as well. He glanced down at her for a moment after he'd regained his balance, before erupting into a short bout of laughter. "I...I'm not laughing at you," he said quickly as soon as he was able, trying to stop the argument before it started, "It's just...the thought of me settling down is kind of...funny. I don't think any of the women in Baron would have me."
Still smiling, he added, with a note of seriousness, "Though I guess it wouldn't be too bad. Retiring and starting a family. It's just...I can't imagine the look on Cecil's face if he found out that I was getting married or something like that."
He shook his head and, realizing that the conversation had been revolving around him, asked "What about you?"
