Kain immediately tensed up when he heard her voice, pausing in mid-bite (he'd grabbed a potato chip and been cautiously raising it to his mouth), and turning around to face her. He had hoped that he would avoid running into Blythe for the remainder of the party.
"Well, Blythe, you're a tough girl. I figured you could take care of yourself." He replied with forced calmness, shoving the chip into his mouth. It was surprisingly good.
He knew that his excuse wouldn't fly, and in truth, he hadn't even thought of Blythe when he had scampered away. He felt a twinge of guilt about it, but it wasn't every day that he got hit on by drunken teammates.
